Inside the secret exit talk that split Peter Obi and Alex Otti

Abia State Governor Alex Otti has revealed how former presidential candidate Peter Obi informed him of his decision to exit the Labour Party amid internal leadership crises.

Speaking during an interview on Arise News, Otti recalled advising Obi to stay and resolve the disputes, even as he personally chose to remain on the platform.

“Peter Obi came to meet me and I told him I was staying in the Labour Party, but he told me he was leaving,” Otti said while reflecting on their exchange.

The governor stated that he believed the party’s internal struggles could be managed, whereas Obi arrived at a different conclusion regarding his political future.

Otti noted that he foresaw some of the political shifts that followed Obi’s exit, including his subsequent move to another party platform after leaving Labour.

He emphasized that he had no authority to direct Obi’s political path, recognizing him as a senior figure who likely weighed factors beyond his own knowledge.

The governor described their discussion as a clear difference in strategy, where both leaders approached the Labour Party crisis with distinct perspectives.
