AWKA, NIGERIA — Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo, has officially sworn in the newly elected Chairmen and Deputy Chairmen across all 21 Local Government Areas (LGAs) of the state.
The inauguration ceremony, held at the Light House in Awka, was attended by key state officials, including Deputy Governor Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezim and the Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Community Affairs, Mr. Ifeanyichukwu Ezeaka.
Addressing the newly inaugurated officials referred to as Local Government Mayors Soludo offered a mixture of congratulations and sober reflection regarding the magnitude of their responsibilities.
“I know that when you were applying for the job, you had all manner of aspirations, promises, and expectations. Welcome to the world of reality, and the clock starts ticking today. The work has already begun,” Soludo stated.
The Governor urged the local government leaders to view their oath of office as a daily guide, suggesting they display copies of the document in visible locations within their offices as a constant reminder of their public trust. He stressed that administrative accountability begins immediately, noting that every moment in office must yield tangible results for the electorate.
Underlining the philosophical framework of his administration, Soludo invoked the core motto of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA). “Be your brother’s and sister’s keeper.” He noted that governance must prioritize the most vulnerable, emphasizing that “a system is only as strong as its weakest link.”
Reflecting on the political landscape, the Governor attributed APGA’s comprehensive electoral victory across the 21 council areas to the party’s two-decade dominance in the state. However, he cautioned the newly sworn-in leaders against complacency, reminding them that their political platform was built by predecessors and must be left stronger for future generations.
While encouraging administrative innovation, Soludo advised the Mayors to operate strictly within established legal, procedural, and fiscal frameworks.
